AI is making old website weaknesses easier to find
Claude is an AI service, similar in category to ChatGPT or Gemini. Its experimental model, Mythos, has drawn attention because it is especially strong at finding software weaknesses. Anthropic's public dashboard recorded more than 20,000 candidate findings as of May 22, 2026.
In Japan, the Financial Services Agency has opened a public-private working group on AI cyber threats, and the government has called for stronger measures through Project YATA-Shield. Overseas, specialist organizations in the UK and elsewhere are also evaluating the risk and encouraging companies to review old systems.
The practical point for website owners is simple. Leaving WordPress or Movable Type outdated, keeping login screens exposed, or stopping maintenance makes weaknesses easier for AI tools to find than before.
If a website is targeted, pages can be defaced, contact forms can stop working, the server can be abused to send spam, or search engines can flag the site as unsafe. Recovery takes time and money, and it can damage trust with customers and business partners. A website should not be left alone after launch; updates and maintenance matter.
